President's Greeting

Sydnee McPhee

Welcome to Middle Tennessee State University, which is widely recognized as one of the best public universities in the country.

Founded on September 11, 1911, MTSU is proud of its century-plus commitment to academic excellence and student success. As a community of scholars, we enthusiastically embrace our past, celebrate our present accomplishments, and effectively plan for the future.

With an enrollment of about 24,000 students, MTSU is the largest undergraduate university in the state of Tennessee. We are also the number-one choice for our state's veterans and transfer students. We lead the Tennessee Board of Regents system in total bachelor's degree graduates each year and are tops among all state universities for adult graduates. In spite of our impressive growth, we remain committed to providing individualized service in an exciting and nurturing atmosphere where student success is our top priority. With a wide variety of nationally recognized academic degree programs at the baccalaureate, master's and doctoral levels, MTSU takes pride in educating the best and the brightest students from Tennessee and around the world.

Our academic programs are offered in state-of-the art facilities and our students live and learn in an environment which is aesthetically pleasing, academically stimulating, and culturally enriching. While we take seriously our role in preparing students for future careers and advanced scholarly pursuits, we also recognize that college is more than just classrooms and coursework. As such, we encourage students to participate in athletic and cultural events on campus as well as the more than 200 student organizations, which include everything from honor societies and service clubs to fraternities and sororities. Indeed, there is something to fit the unique interests and abilities of every student at MTSU.

We are committed to building a community that is devoted to student success and values individual learning, growth and service. We signal this commitment with a simple phrase: "I am True Blue." I encourage you to visit the campus and see for yourself the difference that MTSU can make in your future. If you cannot get here right away, take a look at our virtual tour at tour.mtsu.edu to see what being a part of Tennessee's Best is really like. Without a doubt, it is an unforgettable experience that can change your life.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sidney A. McPhee
