Jewish and Holocaust Studies

The MTSU Jewish and Holocaust Studies minor offers undergraduate students opportunity to study diasporic culture and religion of the Jewish people and the Holocaust in a two-track interdisciplinary minor program housed in the College of Liberal Arts.  Studies include history and culture, theology and philosophy, the arts and social sciences, and the methodologies of Jewish Studies and Holocaust Studies disciplines. The minor program provides a rich and enlightening intellectual understanding that complements many majors.  Courses confront vital topics central to local and global awareness, including multiculturalism and the meanings of diversity (including gender, race, and ethnicity), religious tolerance and intolerance, and genocide.

Minors choose one of two tracks:

  • Jewish Studies:  emphasis on Jewish culture and civilization, including religion, history, philosophy, and the arts
  • Holocaust Studies: emphasis on the history, politics, literature, and philosophy of the genocide we call the Holocaust (or Shoah) and its ongoing importance as a subject of study
