Department of Marketing

Welcome to the Department of Marketing! We are pleased to provide information about undergraduate majors and minors, faculty members, and special programs in the department.

Marketing is a profession that offers a wide range of career opportunities including advertising and promotion, market research, retail management, sales, social media, and more.  Many of our classes include hands-on learning opportunities in the form of projects for campus departments or local businesses.  Several courses offered by our department are part of the university's experiential learning (EXL) program in which emphasis is placed on learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom.

Students’ preparation in the classroom is complemented by three programs:

  • MT Engage - Several courses offered by the department are classified as MT Engage courses. These courses incorporate hands-on, real-world learning through the completion of projects, simulations, certifications, competitions, and/or badges. MT Engage courses also facilitate the integration of learning across other college courses and life experiences. The MT Engage Pathway offers a special designation at graduation for students who complete four MT Engage courses and an ePortfolio.
  • IGNITE - Students enhance preparation for their professional career by participating in IGNITE.  In this professional development program, students attend workshops on career preparation topics, participate in career fairs, engage with the business community, and participate in student organizations.
  • Raiders' Closet - This program helps to outfit students needing assistance in obtaining proper professional attire for a job interview.  We want Blue Raiders to make a good first impression with a prospective employer.  Raiders' Closet can help students relieve the anxiety of how to dress for an interview.

Student organizations and internships are other ways that learning extends beyond the classroom.  Our American Marketing Association and Collegiate DECA chapters bring together students interested in marketing to learn from guest speakers, network, compete, and participate in numerous leadership and professional development opportunities.  Internship opportunities are available to students majoring in marketing through which they can earn course credit, gain work experience, and even secure a full-time position after graduation.

Faculty are available to answer any questions you might have about careers in marketing.  If you would like to visit the office, we are located in the Business and Aerospace Building, (BAS) in Room N429.
