Biography

Daniel P. Pfeifer, Professor in the Department of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University is a native of Louisville, Kentucky. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Middle Tennessee State University (1983) and a Master of Arts degree with an emphasis in Audio Engineering and Music Production from the University of Memphis (1987). Daniel P. Pfeifer, Professor in the Department of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University is a native of Louisville, Kentucky. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Middle Tennessee State University (1983) and a Master of Arts degree with an emphasis in Audio Engineering and Music Production from the University of Memphis (1987). While at University of Memphis, he was a recipient of an Audio Engineering Society Education Grant.

Prior to coming to MTSU, Mr. Pfeifer worked in the professional music industry as an audio engineer and producer, working with artists that include B.B. King, ZZ Top, Albert Collins, Al Green, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Mr. Pfeifer also served as an officer in the Memphis Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and was awarded their Premier Audio Engineer Award (1991). Mr. Pfeifer has continued to produce and engineer music projects in a variety of genres since starting at MTSU in 1991.

Mr. Pfeifer has consulted with companies such as Studer Professional Audio, Automated Processes Inc. (API), National Public Radio, Turner Studios, Naxos Technologies, and others. These consultations involved product development, console setup and commissioning, and operator training.

Mr. Pfeifer has taught at MTSU since 1991. He currently teaches courses in audio engineering and technology, studio production, studio administration, as well as courses in the M.F.A. in Recording Arts and Technologies program. Mr. Pfeifer also coordinates production and technology internships at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Mr. Pfeifer has been a recipient of the Tennessee Board of Regents Academic Excellence and Quality Award (2001) and a recipient of the MTSU Outstanding Teacher Award (1997), MTSU Creative Activity Award (2007), and the Recording Industry Outstanding Alumni Award for University Service (1997). Mr. Pfeifer served as MTSU Faculty Senate President (2003-04) and the MTSU representative on the Tennessee Board of Regents Faculty Sub-council (2004-07).
