Arrangement

The first folders of these papers provide context for the album prepared by Harry Dement. From there, the folders are arranged according to their order in Dement’s album. The biographical sketches are ordered alphabetically.

Biographical Note

As part of an effort to honor past leaders of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge in Murfreesboro, Harry Dement collected biographical and general historical information on the history of the Masons in Murfreesboro. From this research, he wrote brief biographical sketches of some of the Masonic leaders accompanied by their pictures and created a commemorative album. He entitled this album, “Masonic History of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.”   The Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge was founded in 1817, was inactive between 1838 and 1841, but has remained active since then. Notable members of that lodge were John P. Buchanan and Joseph Palmer.
