Non-Degree Seeking Students

Types of non-degree students include the following:


Students enrolled at another institution visiting for one semester's worth of coursework with intentions of transferring back to home institution.

Adult Special

Students 21 or older who do not wish to seek a degree but do seek academic credit. Maximum of 16 hours; other restrictions apply; see catalog.


Any person over 18 years of age who wishes to take courses but receive no credit. 

60+/Disabled Audit

Students who are 60 or older or are permanently disabled can audit courses for no charge. Additional details provided in the catalog.

65+/Disabled Audit

Students who are 65 or older or are permanently disabled can take courses for credit at a minimum registration fee not to exceed $70. Students can also seek a degree with this program. Additional details provided in the catalog..

Early Admission

High ability high school students (3.5 GPA & 27 ACT) and/ or on Individualized Education Program. 

How to apply

To be considered for admissions, students must:

  1. Complete the application for admission and pay the $25 application fee. Students who have previously applied and paid the application fee do not need to submit a second application by the appropriate deadline. These students need to contact the Undergraduate Admissions office to update their application.
  2. Send official transcripts from high school and all colleges/universities attended to MTSU Office of Admissions, 1301 East Main Street, SSAC 120, Murfreesboro, TN 37132.
    1. The high school transcript requirement will be waived if the student graduated prior to 1989 or has earned a bachelor's degree.
    2. Concealment of previous college or university attendance may be cause for rejection, cancellation of admissions, or dismissal of the student.
    3. Send Personal Statement if applicable

It will take 2-3 weeks from the date the last piece of documentation is received for a decision to be made on the student's file.
