The Academic Advisor provides academic guidance to students; she works primarily with
new freshmen and transfer students, but assists all students within the College. She
reviews student overload, course substitution and Academic Fresh Start requests before
Lucy primarily works with students whose last names begin with M through Z; however,
she will see any student that needs assistance.
Lucy graduated with Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees, both in English,
from Mississippi College. After working as an Admissions Counselor for Mississippi
College, a technical writer in the merchandising industry, and college English instructor,
she found that her passion was for higher education and returned to the university
to continue her education. She received her Ph.D. in English with an emphasis in Technical
Communication from Oklahoma State University in 1989. Since then, she has lived in
Tennessee where she has taught various literature and writing classes at Vanderbilt
University, Cumberland University, and Middle Tennessee State University. She assumed
the role of Academic Advisor in February of 2006 and enjoys the challenges and opportunities
that go with coaching students through the college experience.
Lucy is married to Dr. Warren Langworthy, a Family Practitioner in Murfreesboro. She
enjoys reading, running, and the various activities of her three children, Megan,
Lara, and John Ross.
