Marketing and Communications Mission

Marketing and Communications works to promote MTSU's mission, goals and good works in a manner that's clear, consistent and compelling:

Need to Know

ADVERTISING: All University advertising, except for job postings, must be reviewed by the Office of Marketing and Branding before it is purchased (Procurement Services Policy IV: 06:01). Please contact Doug Williams ( fdwilliams@mtsu.edu or 494-7800) before placing advertising in any media, including but not limited to newspapers, magazines, television, radio, outdoor, theater and advertising sponsorships. We will work with you to plan advertising strategies and ensure proper value in our media buys. We would like at least four weeks' notice, but we can speed the review for emergency situations.

CREATING A PUBLICATION: We approach each request for a publication or graphic as an opportunity to present MTSU in the most effective and meaningful way possible. Our services include Writing and Editing; Design; and Working with Printers and Other Vendors. On-campus Printing Services offers black-and-white copying to multicolor offset printing as well as various styles of finishing and binding. For larger or special projects, we work with respected off-campus printers and vendors to deliver excellent and economical results. Creative and Visual Services also offers short-run photo or publication printing, mounting, laminating and other small production tasks. For more information, contact Kara Hooper at (615) 898-2896 or 2875 or kshooper@mtsu.edu

LOGO USE: We are often asked for MTSU wordmark and logo files. We are happy to work with you to make sure that your project is within University standards and is suitable for your goal.

NEWS RELEASES AND MEDIA CONTACTS: We can be an active consultant in your planning, either in person or through your communication liaison committee member. We'll be part of your "think tank." With good information, given to us well in advance, we will suggest various ways to publicize your event or news, free of charge. Scheduling of many of our options requires advanced notice (six to eight weeks). For more information, call Jimmy Hart at (615) 898-2919 or news@mtsu.edu

REQUESTING A PHOTOGRAPH: Our photographers are available to shoot on location or create specialized images in our studios. We also shoot official university studio portraits. And we fulfill service orders for images or prints, such as University stock images for publications, Web and other media; custom digital image editing or corrections; image scanning; and custom photo printing, including large-format requests. Call (615) 898-2875 or e-mail us at arequest@mtsu.edu

PRE-PUBLICATION REVIEW: We're required by the Tennessee Board of Regents to officially number and keep track of University publications, but our mission is much more than that. Focusing on students and the academic goals of MTSU, we strive to present the University accurately and favorably to the world. We do this while working to meet the specific creative and visual needs of student groups, faculty, University administrators, and all the departments, schools, and colleges at MTSU. For more information, contact Kara Hooper at (615) 898-2896 or 2875 or kshooper@mtsu.edu
