Personal Well-Being Services
It is important to remember as you are working to complete your mission of getting a college education that you take care to address your personal well-being both physically and emotionally. In order to make this more feasible for MTSU students to achieve, the MTSU Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veteran and Military Family Center has partnered with the Veteran’s Administration (VA) to provide wellness counseling services on campus.
Ms. Betty Struzick is a licensed clinical social worker through the VA. She can provide a variety of counseling services to student veterans enrolled at MTSU including, but not limited to:
- Individual counseling
- Family counseling
- Marriage counseling
- Mental health counseling
- Grief counseling
She can also assist with access to medical providers at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System in Murfreesboro. The Alvin C. York VA campus is just minutes from the MTSU campus.
Ms. Struzick can serve as an advocate for you, if you need it, in order to access the benefits you have earned through your service. She is easy to talk to, is a good listener and is eager to aid in any way she can to see that you are successful in your educational mission here at MTSU.
To reach Ms. Struzick, please feel free to call 615-904-8347 or 615-898-1927 or simply stop by the center. She can also be reached by email at Betty.Struzick@va.gov.
How does it work?
You can drop by the Daniel Center and ask to talk to the VA social worker. Generally, Ms. Struzick will be available to see you right away.
It is not necessary for you to be signed up with the “Big VA” or VA health care in order to see Ms. Struzick. She can guide you through that process if you do decide to access those earned benefits.
You do not have to schedule your appointments through the main scheduling system in order to see Ms. Struzick.
Why should I take advantage of these services?
Even beginning exciting, new things, like starting or returning to college, can sometimes cause stress in our lives. Transitioning to civilian life can be both fun and challenging and certainly frustrating at times. Just ask any of the veterans working in the Daniels Center. Whether you need someone to help do some problem solving or just need someone to listen, Ms. Struzick is glad to help. She will work with you to achieve and maintain strong mental health as well as help you achieve the goals you have for yourself in this stage of your life.
