Welcome Letter

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome to the Middle Tennessee State University family. It is my pleasure to introduce to you the following Parent and Family Handbook that has been created especially for you as a resource to help you better understand MTSU. Inside you will find an overview of our University and a reference of the different offices, services, and ways to contact them. The most beneficial section is the frequently asked questions. These are the questions that most parents have. If you have a question that is not listed, please let us know and we will help you. Parenting tips are also listed to assist your student during their transition from high school.

In addition to the handbook the office of New Student and Family Programs provides other services for the parents and families of MTSU students. Family Weekend is overseen by our office along with the Parent and Family Association. Members of the Association receive 6 newsletters a year, mailings that include information about events on campus, deadlines and important dates and pertinent information regarding changes in policies or procedures, a discount program just for parents when you come to visit your student, listserv, etc.

I hope that you find the Parent and Family Handbook and the other services provided by our office useful as you assist your student during their transition to Middle Tennessee State University.

Again, I would like to welcome you to the MTSU family and I hope to see you at parent and family events. There are also many other events held on campus that might be of interest to you and we would like to invite you to attend as many of these events as you would like. If I can be of any assistance at any time, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Good luck and best wishes as you are beginning this exciting journey with your son or daughter!

Sincerely,

Rob Patterson
Coordinator of New Student and Family Programs
