With the completion of the network assessment and topology design, preliminary work has been completed for MTSU's Lync infrastructure including the conversion of traditional PRI (primary rate interface) service to SIP (session initiation protocol), which is a signaling communications protocol widely used in voice and video calls over the IP network. While existing Avaya campus phone users will notice no change in how they send and receive calls, the conversion to SIP will allow future development with Lync to be 100 percent IP-based.
