Negre Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

photo of Miguel Negre FernandezMURFREESBORO, Tenn. - For the third time in his Middle Tennessee career, Miguel Negre Fernandez was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, according to the conference office on Tuesday.

"Miguel is an outstanding student-athlete both on and off court," MT head coach Jimmy Borendame said. "He is a great role model and team guy for our younger players."

As a senior, Negre currently has a 3.914 GPA while majoring in Mechatronics Engineering. He's participated in every match for the Blue Raiders this spring and has a record of 10-11 in singles and a 15-2 mark in doubles with partner Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore

In the classroom, Negre is finishing up one of the best careers in MT men's tennis history. Negre is now a four-time C-USA Commissioner's List member, three-time C-USA All-Academic Team, three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, three-time member of an ITA All-Academic Team, and two-time winner of the C-USA Academic Medal, though there is still more academic hardware up for grabs this year.

"In order to balance both classroom work with athletics, it's good to not leave assignments to the last day and try to get homework done almost every day," Negre said. "I think doing well in school translates to the tennis court because you're able to practice and play without having to worry as much about your grades."

Negre and the Blue Raiders are set to take on two-time defending C-USA champion Rice on their home courts in the quarterfinals on Friday at 2 p.m. For updates and information on men's tennis' postseason run, follow the Blue Raiders on Twitter, @MT_MensTennis, and Facebook, MTSU Men's Tennis.
