MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Former Blue Raider soccer standout Kelsey Brouwer was announced Tuesday as the Middle Tennessee nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year
award.
The prestigious award is granted on four pillars of student-athlete excellence – academics,
athletics, service and leadership – and garnered a total of 517 nominations for the
2015-16 athletic season with 231 from the Division I level.
The four-year Blue Raider goalkeeper and three-year team captain was named Conference
USA Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference USA by the conference
office and Second Team All-Region by NSCAA for her efforts in goal during her senior
campaign.
A native of Franklin, Tenn., Brouwer holds school records for career wins (33), shutouts
(27), decisions (68) and minutes played (6,308). She also easily bypassed her own
single-season record of seven shutouts with 10 in 2015.
In addition, Brouwer stands in the top three in MT career history in saves (330),
save percentage (.821), saves per game (4.78) and goals against average (1.02) as
well as the top four in MT single-season history in save percentage (.876), goals
against average (0.76), saves (113) and saves per game (5.65).
Academics are an equally impressive area of excellence for Brouwer, a fall 2015 graduate
in Business Management with a 3.92 GPA. She received conference academic honors all
four years at Middle and was named a CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-District selection
and NSCAA Third Team All-Region Scholar in 2015.
An active member in the community, Brouwer volunteered vast amounts of her time to
local charities and events such as the Garrison Creek Wetland Clean-Up, Special Olympics,
Habitat for Humanity and GraceWorks Ministries, efforts that earned her the 2013 Conference
USA Spirit of Service Award.
The all-time Blue Raider great capped her collegiate career off by winning the 2015
President's Award as the top female scholar-athlete at Middle Tennessee and is currently
competing for a goalkeeping spot with FC Kansas City of the National Women's Soccer
League, the top professional women's soccer league in the country.
Brouwer is one of 87 nominees who played soccer, 31 of which played at the Division
I level with just two soccer nominees from Conference USA. She is also one of just
eight nominees in all sports from C-USA.
The Woman of the Year program was founded in 1991 and saw the highest number of nominees
in its history this year, its 26th of existence.
