Submitting Materials to Middle Tennessee State University

Requirements for Admission

Admission decisions will be made after reviewing all materials and determining the applicant's capacity, suitability, and preparation for graduate study. Admission decisions are based upon consideration of a number of criteria which are believed to indicate a high potential for success in the graduate program. Successful applicants typically have scores on the GRE Verbal and Quantitative measures which exceed 400 with a total combined score that exceeds 800 (or equivalent on the revised GRE). The Analytical Writing Assessment score is also considered. Applicants should provide three letters of recommendation from persons who can address their academic qualifications and potential for success in graduate study. Finally, in an effort to become student focused, it is required that each applicant submit a statement of purpose giving their reason for applying to the program, their academic interests, and professional goals.

Admission Procedure

Enrollment is competitive and limited to those candidates who have met the admission standards set by both Middle Tennessee State University and the Sport Management graduate faculty.

Admission decisions are based on a combination of qualitative and quantitative information, including the letter of intent, letters of recommendation, the academic standing of the program in which the applicant has studied, relevant professional activities, admissions test scores, prior academic work, and the recommendation of the faculty in the area to which the applicant is applying for admission.

Each application is evaluated individually with consideration given to the availability of space in the program, the need to maintain a number of students of high quality, and the ability to achieve the goals of the program.

To assist in facilitating the Blueprint for Excellence as part of the Middle Tennessee strategic plan 2002-2012, the planned enrollment for the Sport Industry Program will be limited to 40 graduate students determined by the Sport Industry faculty.

Timeline for Admission

Applications for summer/fall must be complete by March 1 and applications for spring admission must be complete by October 1. Late applicants who meet the graduate assistantship criteria may be considered on a case-by-case basis. In order to assure top priority for an assistantship, application should be for the fall term.
