About SEM
Society for Electronic Music is a student group based in the Department of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. This program has a well-deserved reputation for having excellent faculty and facilities to train audio engineers who excel in studios all over the globe where pop, rock, and country records are made. This includes an electronic music curriculum whose purpose is to help students harness the power of synthesis and MIDI as it has become prominent in pop music and post-production.
Electronic music professor Dr. Joseph Akins started SEM in the fall of 2005 to serve the growing community of students with an interest in electronic music as a unique form of communication. The group has grown steadily since then, hosting film screenings, demonstrations, and lectures designed to cultivate interest in electronic music. In the fall of 2006, the officers of the group were awarded Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Projects assistantships to finance a compilation CD of original electronic compositions, titled SEM1. |
