What will I learn?

Interesting facts about where our food comes from, how to prepare and preserve foods at home, important elements of nutrition you can use in your daily life, and projects you can pursue for yourself and with your children.  You’ll also learn how science, technology, engineering and math are used in agriculture, and why they are so important to humanity.  You might even discover a career path you’d like to pursue in agriculture that you never knew about before.  This program is designed to be informative and fun!

What is the real-world application?

Food and clothing are two of the three most essential requirements for human life, and the information in these modules and units explore how we rely on agriculture to provide us with them.  In addition, we hope that these modules and units spark interest in pursuing a career in agriculture.  Because our society is primarily urban today, most of us are unaware of the jobs that exist in the production of food and fiber for the world.  The USDA (https://www.purdue.edu/usda/employment/) estimates that almost 60,000 agricultural jobs will go unfilled each year between 2020 and 2025!
