Competitive Sports Positions
Interested in working in sports? You’ve come to the right place. The Competitive Sports program is always hiring dedicated and passionate people who are willing to work hard while continuing to grow and develop. No prior experience is needed. We will teach you everything you need to know. Students can apply to be an Official and referee our sports leagues or an Assistant and help administer the events. There are opportunities to advance and become a student supervisor after working for us for at least a semester.
Campus Recreation’s mission is to serve and educate the MTSU community with recreational opportunities to promote healthy lifestyles in a safe environment. Intramural Sports at MTSU are designed to offer divers, structured, and enjoyable physical activity opportunities for members of the MTSU community. Through healthy competition and sportsmanship, participants are exposed to unique extra-curricular experiences in a recreational environment.
Responsibilities
- Enforce Intramural Sports policies and rules during nightly programming
- Check-in participants during nightly programming
- Keeping score of Intramural Sports games/events
- Complete and submit nightly paperwork
- Set up, breakdown, and manage equipment for nightly programming and events
- Check in/out with Competitive Sports Supervisor during nightly shifts
- Promote sportsmanship and represent the program fairly and consistently
- Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests
- Attend required meetings and trainings
- Assist as needed in all required departmental functions

- Demonstrate integrity, ethics, and commitment to diversity and inclusion
- Maintain clean, appropriate, and professional attire
- Current First Aid, AED, and CPR certification. if you do not have a current certification, Campus Rec staff will provide a training for you to attend, free of charge

Responsibilities
- Represent MTSU Campus Recreation by working at sport club events
- Set up and breakdown equipment for events
- Manage conflict that may arise during events including removing participants and/or guests from the facility
- Complete and submit paperwork
- Collect team waivers from visiting club sports teams
- Enforce severe weather policy and evacuate fields/courts as needed
- Control access to facilities, lights and equipment including but not limited to keys, radios, etc
- Understand and enforce Campus Recreation and area specific policies and guidelines
- Knowledge and implementation of Emergency Action Plan
- Assist in day-to-day administration of the Competitive Sports program
- Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants and guests
- Assist as needed in all required departmental functions

Required Qualifications

- Availability to work weekends

- Enforce rules, policies, fouls, and penalties during Intramural Sports programming
- Provide game management and participant management during Intramural Sports programming
- Set up and breakdown equipment for nightly programming and events
- Check in/out with Competitive Sports Supervisor during nightly shifts
- Start games and events in a timely manner
- Rate each team after each game/event using the Intramural Sports Sportsmanship Rating System
- Attend required meetings and trainings
- Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests
- Assist as needed in all required departmental functions

- Check in/out Intramural Sports Officials and Assistants and assign nightly tasks
- Start games and events in a timely manner
- Report and make official forfeit calls
- Promote sportsmanship and represent the program fairly and consistently
- Manage conflict that may arise during events including player ejections and removing participants and/or guests from the facility
- Complete and submit nightly paperwork
- Collect team waivers from visiting club sports teams
- Enforce severe weather policy and evacuate fields/courts as needed
- Control access to facilities, lights and equipment including but not limited to keys, radios, etc)
- Understand and enforce Campus Recreation and area specific policies and guidelines
- Knowledge and implementation of Emergency Action Plan
- Assist and help organize and facilitate required trainings
- Assist in day-to-day administration of the Competitive Sports program
- Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants and guests
- Provide leadership and accountability for Intramural Sports staff
- Hire, train, evaluate and supervise area team
- Assist as needed in all required departmental functions

Required Qualifications
- Current First Aid, AED, and CPR certification (must be obtained prior to starting date)
- Work for Competitive Sports program for at least 1 semester
