Group Fitness Instructor Training (GFIT)

Date: Begins February 5, 2020 and goes for 8 weeks
Time: 2:00-3:30 pm (every Wednesday)
Location: Campus Rec Upstairs Conference Room
Cost: Training is FREE! Participants must purchase the GFIT Handbook

No previous teaching experience is required!

Learn how to safely and effectively lead group fitness classes in a structured and supportive setting. The program includes both a classroom and hands-on setting utilizing the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Curriculum. You will work directly with professionals in the field to learn a variety of class formats including strength, cardio, and choreographed fitness.

Upon completion, you will be eligible for an audition and interview to be hired as an MTSU Campus Recreation Fitness Instructor.

You will gain experience in: fundamentals of basic anatomy, physiology, and group fitness; public speaking; group leadership; professional conduct

Date: October 2020
Location: Functional Fitness Studio

Participants must attempt all three lifts in order to be considered an overall champion. You will have three attempts per lift. Lifters will be categorized by appropriate weight class prior to start of event. Prizes include t-shirts, shaker bottles, and trophies. Limited to 40 participants.

Order of Lifts: Squat, Bench, Deadlift


  • 11:30-12:30 pm - Open warm-up and weigh-ins
  • 12:30-1:00 pm - Opening announcements
  • 1:00-4:30 pm – Competition

Personal Fitness Instructor Training (PFIT)

Join us for a free 8-week course which will prepare you for National Certification through ACE Fitness, along with additional hands-on application in a personal training setting. No experience is necessary, but prior knowledge of anatomy/physiology is recommended. Space is limited.
