Center for Chinese Music and Culture (CCMC)
MTSU Chinese Music Ensemble
The MTSU Chinese Music Ensemble, directed by Dr. Mei Han, is a registered course at the School of Music that is open to the entire student body. The ensemble aims to broaden students’ cultural horizons by providing hands-on experience with Chinese instruments and music. This enriching practice enhances students’ musical vocabulary, international competencies, and skills in music theory and history.
Students perform in both small and large ensemble settings, showcasing a variety of music styles, including traditional and contemporary Chinese compositions, original works, and fusions of musical styles from around the world. The ensemble also actively serves the Middle Tennessee community through performances at MTSU and beyond. In recent years, we have collaborated with the Chinese Ensemble from North Texas University, toured Western Kentucky University and North Georgia University, and were invited to perform in Washington, D.C. Notably, the Chinese ensemble had the remarkable opportunity to perform in China for the first time in the summer of 2024, receiving widespread acclaim and making national news.
We are proud to have members from diverse backgrounds, including music majors, non-music majors, and faculty. Local community members are also welcome and encouraged to join the ensemble and experience once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.
