Crisis Services

If a student is in crisis and needs to speak to a counselor, MTSU Counseling Services provides students with access to an on-call counselor if they meet any of the following criteria:

  • currently thinking about attempting suicide
  • has a strong desire to harm someone else
  • having strange experiences such as hearing voices or seeing things other people do not
  • has been physically or sexually assaulted within the past two weeks

If the student does not meet the requirements listed above, then a regular appointment will need to be scheduled either by phone or in person. The typical wait time to meet with a counselor is within one week. MTSU Counseling Services does not provide after hours on-call. If there is an emergency outside of office hours, please call the Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-8255, Mobile Crisis at 1-800-704-2651, or go to the nearest hospital ER.
