Discrimination or Harassment Resources

Discrimination or Harassment Resources

In promoting a safe and positive learning and working environment, MTSU strives to ensure that the rights of all members of its campus community are respected. Should any member of the campus community experience or witness an incident of discrimination, harassment or unfair treatment, MTSU encourages members of its campus community to file the appropriate complaint so that the university can properly address and remedy the situation.

MTSU makes available a variety of resources and avenues for reporting incidents and submitting formal complaints. Federal and state laws, as well as MTSU institutional policies, strictly prohibit anyone from retaliating against individuals because they complained about discrimination or harassment, or requested an accommodation.

Two laws govern the rights of persons with disabilities:  Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (as amended, 2008).  They prohibit discrimination against individuals with disabilities and require reasonable accommodations for those who request them.  For those requiring accommodations for disabilities, MTSU offers a wide variety of services for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Disabled Student Services is available to all currently enrolled students who have a documented disability that substantially limits them in one or more of life’s major activities.

Requests for reasonable accommodation from faculty and staff, including access related to employment, are handled by MTSU’s Human Resource Services.

Requests for reasonable accommodation from individuals outside of the institution, including access during events, are handled by MTSU’s ADA Campus Coordinator.
