Biography

Todd Waldecker has served for over 25 years as Professor of Clarinet at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  He teaches applied clarinet, chamber music, clarinet pedagogy, and received the MTSU Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award in 2006. Todd Waldecker has served for over 25 years as Professor of Clarinet at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  He teaches applied clarinet, chamber music, clarinet pedagogy, and received the MTSU Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award in 2006. Dr. Waldecker has also served for over 20 years on the faculty of the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts.  

Waldecker has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across the United States, Europe, Asia and South America at international conventions, on concert series, and in universities and high schools. He is a frequent performer with the Grammy award winning Nashville Symphony and serves as Principal Clarinet of the Nashville Opera.  As an active studio musician in Nashville, Waldecker can be heard on recordings for film, television and video games.

Waldecker is the director of the Middle Tennessee State University Clarinet Choir which has performed by invitation at several International Clarinet Association ClarinetFests.  An advocate for the clarinet choir as a performing medium, Waldecker hosts the annual MTSU High School Honor Clarinet Choir which has introduced the joy of clarinet choir playing to hundreds of young clarinetists.

Waldecker's current and former students enjoy careers as university professors, public school teachers, orchestral and military band performers, and in the fields of music publishing, sales, marketing and instrument repair. His students have been semi-finalists and finalists in the International Clarinet Association's Young Artist and Orchestral Audition Competitions, and have been prizewinners in the MTNA Solo and Chamber Music Competitions.

Dr. Waldecker holds degrees from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (D.M), Yale University (M.M.) , and the University of Missouri (B.M.).  His teachers include Howard Klug, Eli Eban, James Campbell, Alfred Prinz, David Shifrin, Paul Garritson and John Patterson.
