Educational Outreach

The Forensic Institute for Research and Education (FIRE) supports K-12 interest in forensic science through several ongoing projects. By building partnerships between research scientists and K-12 students and educators, FIRE promotes engagement in STEM fields using forensic applications.

Community education partnerships are central to FIRE's mission. We support public and private K-12 teachers by offering workshops to assist with engaging student learning through the use of forensic science.  FIRE coordinates visiting scientist lectures for all grade levels.

Additional opportunities to experience forensic science education are available throughout the year. Our staff frequently gives presentations at local science learning centers and to community groups. We also host internationally recognized forensic professionals during our lecture series.

FIRE also annually holds CSI:MTSU, a four day summer camp for high school students. This day camp allows students to explore various aspects of forensic investigation, working in teams to solve a case.
