The Zadie Key Papers include scrapbooks, letters, clippings, newspapers, photographs, cookbooks, and commemorative items chronicling Mrs. Key’s life and political career. Ms. Key participated in the activities of political and community organizations such as the Rutherford County Democratic Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, and the Rutherford County Historical Society, and presided over the Rutherford County Democratic Women’s Club as its president.

Biographical Note
Zadie Key (October 20, 1921 – August 30, 1992) studied at Middle Tennessee State Teacher’s College; returned to work for her alma mater; won the title of Secretary of the Year; participated in the activities of political and community organizations such as the Rutherford County Democratic Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, and the Rutherford County Historical Society; and presided over the Rutherford County Democratic Women’s Club as its president.
Scope and Content
Scrapbooks, letters, newspapers, cookbooks, and commemorative items comprise the Zadie Key papers. Photographs and two scrapbooks from the Rutherford County Democratic Women provide insight into Zadie Key’s political career and ways that the Rutherford County Democratic Women organized in the 1970s and 1980s. The scrapbooks contain correspondence, photographs, newspapers clippings, and newsletters chronicling the organization’s activities. The collection is divided into two series. Series 1: Personal contains items relating to Mrs. Key’s personal or professional life. Series 2: Political contains scrapbooks, newspapers, letters, and any other memorabilia relating to Zadie Key’s political interests and activities.
