Summary/Abstract
The Dot Harrison Papers includes correspondence, rosters, newspaper articles, and photographs covering Harrison’s time as Director of Development and Communications Marketing at MTSU, as well as her work with the Nissan Affiliate Artists program, the MTSU Student Ambassadors, and the Volunteer Girls State. Also in the collection are documents recording visits to MTSU by President George H. W. Bush, John Bragg, and Walter Mondale, as well as commencement speeches from former MTSU Presidents Melvin G. Scarlett and Sam Ingram.

Biographical Note
Dot Harrison (MTSU BA 1962, MA 1972) was Director of Development and Communications Marketing at MTSU from 1974 until her retirement in December of 2000. During her career, she received three awards: an international award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education for the program she began for retired faculty members at MTSU, the Otis Floyd Award from the Tennessee College Public Relations Association, and the first Outstanding Public Service Award for a staff member given by MTSU. Before her time as the Director of Development and Communications Marketing, Harrison spent two years as a graduate student and English teacher and spent four years as an editor and writer for the Daily News Journal. She also led media relations for twenty years before moving to the Development Office in March of 1996. Harrison was extremely active in both the MTSU and Murfreesboro community; she was campus coordinator of the Volunteer Girls State summer program, was involved with the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, participated in the Tennessee Press Association, and was chair of the Cultural Arts Commission.
Scope and Content
The Dot Harrison collection contains 5 linear feet of materials regarding Harrison’s work within the Middle Tennessee State University and Murfreesboro community dating from 1974 to 1997. The collection includes membership rosters and handbooks for the Girls State summer program from 1988 to 1996, programs from various MTSU events including presidential inaugurations and building dedications, rosters and correspondence regarding the MTSU Student Ambassador program from 1977-1995, and materials produced for various MTSU publicity campaigns. The collection also contains records of her work with the Nissan Affiliate Artist program and an extensive collection of MTSU newspaper clippings dating from 1971 to 1993.
