Graduation Information
Apply to Graduate
All expected graduates must submit an intent to graduate form (and upper division form if required by the college) to be added to a graduation list. It is strongly recommended that all expected graduates meet with their college advisor before submitting graduation paperwork. All students should regularly review their degree audit on DegreeWorks (click button below) to confirm all degree requirements will be met during the graduating term marked on the intent to graduate form.
Required Graduation Paperwork
All undergraduate students are expected to file their Intent to Graduate (and upper-division form if required by their college) two semesters before the intended graduation term. To complete the forms you may want to schedule an advising appointment with your College advisor.
- December 14, 2024 Graduation – Intent due April 12, 2024. If you apply late and your intent to graduate form is not received by your graduation analyst by Friday, October 25, 2024, your name may not appear in the Commencement program, you might not be able to participate in the ceremony due to space limitations, and you might not be checked in time for a December 2024 degree date.
- May 10, 2025 Graduation – Intent due June 1, 2024. If you apply late and your intent to graduate form is not received by your graduation analyst by Friday, March 7, 2025, your name may not appear in the Commencement program, you might not be able to participate in the ceremony due to space limitations, and you might not be checked in time for a May 2025 degree date.
- August 9, 2025 Graduation – Intent due November 15, 2024. If you apply late and your intent to graduate form is not received by your graduation analyst by Friday, June 13, 2025, your name may not appear in the Commencement program, you might not be able to participate in the ceremony due to space limitations, and you might not be checked in time for an August 2025 degree date.
- December 13, 2025 Graduation – Intent due April 18, 2025. If you apply late and your intent to graduate form is not received by your graduation analyst by Friday, October 24, 2025, your name may not appear in the Commencement program, you might not be able to participate in the ceremony due to space limitations, and you might not be checked in time for a December 2025 degree date.
If you have missed the deadline, please complete your paperwork with your College advisor immediately and submit forms to your Graduation Analyst (found below in the College Advising Offices tab) for consideration.
It is strongly recommended that you meet with your college advisor to review your DegreeWorks audit to ensure you are on track for the graduation term marked on your intent to graduate form.
Undergraduate students may drop off the intent to graduate form and upper division form (if required by your college) at your college’s advising office, or scan and email the forms to your college advisor.
The colleges not requiring an upper division form are the College of Basic & Applied Sciences, College of Behavioral & Health Sciences, College of Education, College of Liberal Arts, College of Media & Entertainment and University College. Expected graduates in these colleges are only required to submit the intent to graduate form.
The college that requires both an intent to graduate form and upper division form is the Jennings A. Jones College of Business. Expected graduates from this college must submit the intent to graduate and upper division forms together to the appropriate advising office or to your college advisor.
If you do not know the name of your college advisor, you can find this information by logging into your PipelineMT account > Registration & Student Records menu > then click on the Assigned Advisor(s) icon. If you do not know the College of your degree program, click on the DegreeWorks button at the bottom of this page and log into PipelineMT. Your college is listed in the upper middle section of your DegreeWorks audit in the “College” section.

Expected graduates from the College of Graduate Studies will submit the online intent to graduate form.
It is very important that all expected graduates regularly review their degree audit on DegreeWorks (accessible through your PipelineMT account) to confirm all degree requirements will be met during the graduation term marked on the intent to graduate form. To view your DegreeWorks audit in PipelineMT click on the DegreeWorks button on this page.

Graduate students that need to be removed from a current graduation list must submit an online request to withdraw intent to graduate form.
Graduate students completing a thesis or dissertation may find information regarding this process on the College of Graduate Studies website.

If an undergraduate student is on a current graduation list, but did not complete all degree requirements, the student must contact their college advisor or college graduation analyst. The student should request to be moved to a future graduation term based upon planned future registration. If the student does not email a request to be moved to a future graduation term, the graduation analyst may either remove the student from future graduation lists or move the student to a future graduation term. The graduation analyst will email the student an explanation of their new graduation status. It is the student’s responsibility to actively monitor their MTSU email and review their DegreeWorks audit to confirm any missing or unmet degree requirements and contact their college advisor or graduation analyst if they have any questions or a change in graduation status.
Catalog Requirements for Undergraduate Graduation
DegreeWorks is available by logging into PipelineMT by clicking on the DegreeWorks button on this page. Courses and/or other graduation requirements not yet completed are listed to assist you in planning your class schedule for the upcoming registration. Completed courses and all other met graduation requirements are displayed. Advisors have access to the DegreeWorks information to assist you. Questions concerning requirements should be directed to your college/academic advisor.
- Overall – Used for the Graduation GPA
MTSU college level courses/grades and transfer college level courses/grades posted prior to Summer 2015. Transfer college level grades are not included if posted Summer 2015 and after. The first attempt of a repeated course is excluded. Even if a course does not count toward graduation requirements, it will be counted in the overall average. The GPA listed as “Overall Combined” on the transcript (includes developmental credits) is NOT used for meeting graduation requirements. - Major Average
If a student has more courses in a major area than are actually required, only those courses specifically required for the major will be used to determine the required 2.00. - Minor Average
For those minors which require a 2.00 grade point average (GPA), only those courses specifically required for the minor will be used to determine the required 2.00. - Teacher Education
Guidelines for computation of grade point averages for admission to the teacher education program, for eligibility to student teaching, and for subject area endorsement may be obtained in the administrative offices of the College of Education, College of Education Building, Room 214, 615-904-8001 or 615-898-5188. - Excessive Repeats
All attempts in excess of one are figured in the overall GPA.
Course substitutions are obtained from the college advisor (minor advisor if relates to minor). Substitutions must be approved by the department head and the dean of the college. Substitutions apply to the student’s academic program and will not be entered in DegreeWorks until all approval signatures are received.
Course waivers are recommended by the major advisor (minor advisor if relates to minor) and approved by the department head and the dean of the college. Waivers apply to the student’s academic program and will not be entered in DegreeWorks until all approval signatures are received.
THEC and MTSU require seniors to take specific proficiency exams during their final semester. The required exams are General Education and Major Field Tests. The tests are administered by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Planning and Research. The tests are given to all seniors who will graduate with a bachelor’s degree.
