Ballard, Kenneth M.

Kenneth Michael Ballard was born on 21 July 1977 to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ballard in Mountain View, California. He studied International Relations at Middle Tennessee State University and commissioned from the Reserve Officers Training Corps in 2002 as an Armor Officer. Ballard served with the 1st Armored Division in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Kenneth M. Ballard died during OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM from wounds received during an accidental weapons discharge near Najaf, Iraq, on May 30, 2004. He commanded an M-1 Abrams tank and belonged to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division. Ballard was posthumously awarded two bronze stars for his valor. Lieutenant Ballard rests peacefully at Arlington National Cemetery.
