• State Senator—1988-2000 (Last 6 years as Chairman of Senate Education Committee and Joint House-Senate Veteran Affairs Committee)  

Served in US Army as a Sargent in 4th Infantry Division from 1967 -68. 

Inducted into the Tennessee Insurance Hall of Fame as a State Farm Ins agent; selected as an Outstanding Alumni by the MTSU Alumni Assc.
