291  University Bookstore/Textbooks, Course Materials, and Course Supplies

I. Purpose

This policy makes available to the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU or University) campus community the required textbooks, school supplies, general interest books, and the other assorted merchandise characteristic of good university bookstores.

II. Bookstore Advisory Committee

The University will appoint a University Bookstore Advisory Group composed of faculty, staff, and students whose charge shall be to review contract details during the outsourcing contract renewal process, review bookstore operational procedures, and review any questions/concerns not satisfactorily addressed by bookstore staff. The Assistant Vice President for Administrative and Business Services will Chair the committee.

III. Textbooks and Other Materials

University procedures for adoption and changes in course material requirements will meet the following standards:

A.  The bookstore procedures will provide faculty with flexibility in the selection and use of textbooks, course materials, and course supplies.

B.  The bookstore will provide students with textbooks, course materials, and course supply services at a competitive price.

C.  Faculty will provide the bookstore with adequate notice of changes in textbooks and other course materials and selection and use of course supplies.The bookstore will disclose to faculty members on a per course basis the costs to students of the required textbook and course materials, and the faculty member will affirmatively acknowledge the price before an order is completed.

D.  Bookstore management will work with faculty and the department chairs/directors to provide for the unforeseen need to change or add supplemental texts which might arise after established ordering and buy-back deadlines.

E.  Lists of required textbooks and course materials to include any International Standard Book Number (ISBN) will be made available on the University website.

IV. Department and Employee Discounts

The bookstore will offer discounts to University departments and employees per the terms of the contract with the University.
