The Human Resource Management concentration in the Bachelor of Business Administration degree is offered through the Jones College of Business at MTSU.
People, or human resources, are any organization's most valuable asset. If you desire a career where you can be a strategic link between organizations and their people, select the Management and Leadership major with a concentration in Human Resource Management. Help your organization find and keep the most talented people! In addition to courses in the business core and the major, students study talent acquisition, compensation management, training and development, and strategic innovations in human resource management. These courses use experiential assignments and other engaging teaching practices. Professionals in the community often serve as guest speakers and as clients for real-world projects where students solve HRM problems.

This concentration provides students with HRM-focused knowledge and skills in the areas identified by the profession as most critical, including workforce planning and analytics, recruitment and selection, employment law and compliance, compensation and benefits, diversity and inclusion, training and development, employee and labor relations, and safety and security. Graduates may pursue human resource management positions, such as HR business partner, HR specialist, or recruiter.

The Nashville-Metro area is home to many regional and national headquarters – Nissan, Bridgestone, HCA, Amazon, and Oracle. A recent Nashville Chamber of Commerce study reported that these headquarters collectively employ 1700 HRM professionals. Additionally, these companies recognize the value of professional certification. A recent online search showed that there are 60 companies in the Nashville area that are currently hiring for HR, and the job postings commonly list the PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP certification as desirable. Our program is aligned with the Society for Human Resource Management’s curriculum guidelines, and our graduates are prepared to take the SHRM-CP certification exam.

In any business, the people who make up the company are the most valuable assets. If you're looking for a career in navigating employee-business relations, select the Management major with a concentration in Human Resource Management.

In addition to the knowledge and skills of business ethics, evaluating/managing performance indicators, and leadership, students learn about talent acquisition management, training and development, compensation management, and strategic innovation in human resource management. This concentration qualifies seniors to take the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) certification exam.
