Diversity Action Plan

  • Continue to provide educational opportunities and resources to help faculty increase the diversity and inclusiveness of their course content;
  • Continue to sponsor departmental events, lectures, and workshops that promote and celebrate diversity; and
  • Continue to promote the success of current and prospective students from diverse backgrounds. 

 

Activities to Date

  • Added the requirement of a diversity statement to the application materials for faculty job candidates (Spring 2020) 
  • Passed a Black Lives Matters statement of support (Fall 2020) 
  • Developed a section of the department website devoted to diversity and inclusiveness resources (Fall 2020) 
  • Sponsored the first Diversity, Inclusion, and Student Success: Pathways to Graduate School and Beyond symposium (Spring 2021) 
  • Created a standing Diversity and Inclusion Committee (as opposed to an ad hoc committee) comprised of faculty, students, and staff who are committed to these issues (Spring 2021) 
  • Sponsored the second Diversity, Inclusion, and Student Success: Pathways to Graduate School and Beyond symposium (Fall 2021) 
  • Organized and co-sponsored Dr. Kecia Thomas’s Distinguished Lecture Series talk on diversity in academia. (Spring 2022) 
  • Added a greater diversity of pictures to the department website to better represent the diversity of our students. (Fall 2022) 
  • Sponsored the third Diversity, Inclusion, and Student Success: Pathways to Graduate School and Beyond symposium (Fall 2022)
