Studio A Picture

Studio A

Studio A, located in BRAGG 178, was designed to accommodate the needs of medium to large music recording sessions, stereo and surround mixing, post production, and video capture. The control room is centered around a 40-channel fully automated API Vision Analog Console with 32 mic preamps and 32 on-board compressors. The studio monitor system features a dual 5.1 Phantom Focus system from Carl Tatz Design using Coastal Acoustics Boxer mains and Event Opal near-field monitors.

Studio B PictureStudio B

Studio B, located in BRAGG 184, was designed to accommodate the needs of medium to large music recording and mixing sessions. Control Room B is physically and acoustically identical to Control Room A with a 48-channel Solid State Logic Duality console. The studio monitor system features a dual stereo Phantom Focus system from Carl Tatz Design using Coastal Acoustics Boxer mains and Event Opal near-field monitors.

Studio C PictureStudio C

Studio C, located in JUB 120, was originally designed by TEC award winning designer Bob Todrank. The studio has since been renovated with acoustical treatments and monitor systems by Carl Tatz Designs. The studio complex includes a control room, a machine room, and an isolation booth. Serving as a mix and overdub room, Studio C is equipped with a Solid State Logic AWS Delta 900+ console.

Studio D PictureStudio D

Studio D, located in EMAIN 105, is one of our newest recording studio facilities with state of the art instructional technology and is used for instruction and student sessions. The studio was designed by Peter Grueneisen of NonZero Architecture and Steve White of Bullock, Smith, and Partners and opened for student use and classes in Fall 2021. The studio features a Solid State Logic AWS924 console, Avid Pro Tools DAW, and audio monitoring by Adam Audio and Phantom Focus, tuned by Carl Tatz. Hear Back Pro system provides a multi-channel cue system and outboard gear includes API, Bricasti, Chandler Limited, Universal Audio, and more. The space features a large main studio room with 17 foot ceilings, a large and small isolation booth, and an amp closet.

ImageStudio E

Studio E, located in EMAIN 102, is another of our newer studio facilities that is used for instruction and student sessions. Post Studio PicturePost Lab

The Post Lab located in BRAGG 183 is an audio control room and instructional lab designed for live broadcast production mixing and sound-for-picture post-production. A widescreen video display and Neumann 7.1.4 audio monitoring system support immersive playback and real-time mixing of audio-visual content in any sound format from mono to Atmos. For live event production, a Calrec Summa console provides control, processing and connectivity via Hydra2, Dante/AES67 and SoundGrid networks. Sound design, editorial and mixing applications center on a Pro Tools workstation with numerous audio utilities, plug-ins and external fader control. Additional resources include sound effects libraries, Foley props and an isolation booth suitable for recording dialogue and spot effects.  


MIX Lab PictureMix Lab

The Mix Lab located in BRAGG 180 is a newly renovated facility that provides immersive audio presentation and mixing functions with an Avid S6 control surface and Genelec 7.1.4 monitoring system. The room's size and flexibility allow it to serve as a traditional classroom, a twenty-four-seat screening room, a film dubbing stage and a music mix room depending on the scheduled use.  Resources include Pro Tools Ultimate, additional audio utilities and plug-ins, headphone monitoring at every seat in the room, and tie-lines to the adjacent Edit Lab (Bragg 177) for voice-over recording and overdubs.  


ImageMastering Lab

The Mastering Lab, also known as Lab A is located in BRAGG 174, is a multimedia classroom used primarily for audio production courses that require reference monitoring with or without DAW integration. The lab supports in-the-box mixing, audio mastering (with hybrid digital and analog signal processing) and media authoring. 

 


EM Lab PictureEM Lab

The Electronic Music (EM) Lab, located in BRAGG 130, affords students the opportunity to become skilled in desktop music production. Courses that make use of this lab include Intro to MIDI and Sound Synthesis, MIDI-based Music Production, Electronic Music and Controllerism, and MIDI-based Scoring for Visual Media. The lab contains twelve identical student stations and an instructor's main station, each equipped with state-of-the-art hardware, industry-standard DAW software, and extensive pro-class virtual instruments and sound libraries from top vendors utilized for music production.

Edit Lab PictureEdit Lab

The Edit Lab, located in BRAGG 177, ensures that students have access to a space that houses some of the advanced software found throughout other facilities (Pro Tools Ultimate, Dolby Atmos Production Suite, Pyramix, etc.).

DIGI Lab PictureDigi Lab

The Digi Lab, located in COE 150, much like the EM Lab affords students the opportunity to become skilled in desktop music production. This facility allows the user to explore their music abilities in production and editing at a more basic-level,  The lab contains sixteen identical student stations and an instructor's main station, each equipped with the necessary hardware, industry-standard DAW software, and a couple of extensive pro-class virtual instruments and sound libraries from top vendors utilized for music production.


ILS Studio PictureILS

The ILS, located on the eastside of the MEC, is a very unique immersive learning enviroment that allows student to experience the world of virtual reality. 

 

 


Chris Young Café Chris Young Cafe Picture

The Chris Young Café, located in WC 100, is a performance venue on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University honoring Chris Young and his continued support of his alma mater.  The cafe, located in the Woodmore Building and surrounded by residence halls, is a teaching and practice space for artists and technicians during the day and a performance venue at night for music, broadcast, drama and entertainment.  The Department of Recording Industry, owner and operator, is committed to making the space a community-based performance environment that supports music and other performances, while at the same time feels like a campus hangout spot and not a formal teaching space.
