MTSU Stormwater Program Public Involvement & Events
MTSU Stormwater Program strives to provide education for streams and rivers in our community. We also provide educational and volunteer opportunities to our campus population. Some of our projects have included campus cleanups, stream cleanups, wetland remediation, tree plantings, invasive plant removal, elementary environmental education and outreach booths. We would love for you to join in and be part of our clean stream experience!
Past events
Garrison Creek Restoration – The Green Interchange is working with Rutherford County, Murfreesboro Water Resources & the Murfreesboro Street Department to plant trees along Garrison Creek in Murfreesboro.

Murfreesboro’s National Public Lands Day – We joined thousands of volunteers across the nation in celebrating the 26th year of National Public Lands Day by working to preserve and improve our public lands. We removed invasive exotic plants, modern fencing & trash from the park’s McFadden Farm Unit located at 2600 Van Cleve Lane. In the process, we improved the condition of the battlefield & the Stones River watershed.
City of Murfreesboro’s Earth Day Celebration
On April 21, 2018, the Stormwater program participated in the 17th annual Earth Day celebration on the square in Murfreesboro. There were refreshments, children’s activities & live entertainment. Environmental & educational booths on site.
Tennessee Environmental Council 250K Tree Day!

On February 24, 2018, TEC planted 250,000 native tree seedlings across Tennessee. This was the largest community tree-planting event in Tennessee history.
Invasive Plant Removal at Oaklands Mansion/Maney Spring
On October 26, the Stormwater Program worked with Dr. Kim Sadler’s Biology class to cut & spray invasive plants at Oaklands Mansion. Also removed trash from site.
2nd Annual Waterfest
Location: Old Fort Park (1025 Old Fort Park, Murfreesboro)
On September 15, 2018 in Old Fort Park the Stormwater Program participated in the 2nd Annual Waterfest festival. Professionals representing over 50 different water quality career paths led students through engaging demonstrations & hands-on activities.
