Current Focus: Agent/Individual-Based Modeling and Control for Wildfires

Project Description

The number of large-scale, high-severity forest fires occurring in the United States is increasing, as is the cost to suppress these fires. We will use agent/individual-based modeling (ABMs) approach for wildfires and find the (optimal) control strategies to present and suppress the fire. Our goal is to determine the (optimal) prevention management spending rate and the (optimal) suppression spending which maximizes the expected value of a forest. We develop a parameter set reflecting the 2019 Amazon Fire and numerically solve our agent-based (optimal) control problem.

Why does this topic interest you?

This topic interests me because it allows me to find some kind of solution for wildfires, on stopping it from expanding.

What are your professional aspirations?

My professional aspiration is to gain research experience from this project that it will enhance my research ability of literature review, modeling and programming, manuscript preparation.

Do you have any advice for future researchers?

I would advice future researchers to do a lot of reading on their topic and meeting with their advisor weekly and stay unto date.
