Professor Kyriakoudes is director of the Albert Gore Research Center and specializes in the social and economic history of the 19th and 20th century United States in global context. His research has explored the economic, demographic, and cultural history of American South and the history of the global cigarette industry. Professor Kyriakoudes is director of the Albert Gore Research Center and specializes in the social and economic history of the 19th and 20th century United States in global context. His research has explored the economic, demographic, and cultural history of American South and the history of the global cigarette industry. Currently he is exploring how tobacco manufacturers have used scientific experts, social science research, marketing and advertising to shape the experience and perception of cigarette smokers. He is also researching the role of migration and immigration in shaping the history of the rural South. Professor Kyriakoudes has served as a National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development postdoctoral fellow at the University of North Carolina’s Carolina Population Center, and has won grants from the Economic History Association, U.S. Department of Commerce, and the National Endowment for the Humanities for his research.
