I do research to solve questions that I want answered rather than what society asks, though I hope in answering them society does find some utility therein. Nevertheless, I do research for myself. Having been well-trained as a teaching assistant at both The Ohio State University and the University of Illinois, discussion and cooperative learning are at the core of my teaching methodology. I teach to please myself, to have fun with the material arranging it, rearranging it, presenting it, though if I do this well, students will also learn well.
