Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), Graduate Certificate

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certificate program is designed to be delivered in an online learning environment, with the exception of clinical practice experiences that are offered under the direct supervision of an experienced provider, and to meet the increasing demand for psychiatric advanced practice providers in the mental health care field.
The PMHNP-PMC curriculum is congruent with national standards for graduate-level, advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) education and is consistent with nationally recognized population-focused NP educational standards and competencies. The PMHNP-PMC courses are outlined by course number, course title, credit hours, and course description, and are available in the EDR. A sample program of study is also available in the EDR.
Consistent with the APRN consensus model, the PMHNP-PMC curriculum is designed to build on the foundation of the APRN Core and previous graduate-level coursework. In consultation with the program coordinator, the SON admissions committee reviews each applicant's transcript to ensure they have completed the required APRN core courses prior to beginning the PMHNP-PMC courses.
In accordance with the NTF Criteria for Evaluation of NP Programs (2016), the PMHNP-PMC requires a minimum of 630 direct patient care clinical hours, with additional requirements based on population/treatment modalities.
