The University College Public Service department supports faculty and staff with the planning and funding of university projects. Public Service (as defined by the committee) is the term used to encompass the activities using the professional expertise of the university faculty which provides service to the community, region, state, or nation, within the bounds of the university mission as executed by its departments. These activities are commonly included under the headings of extension, continuing education, community service, adult education, and consultation.
The Public Service Committee is appointed by the President and is composed of two
faculty members from each undergraduate college and two undergraduate students. The
Dean of MTSU's University College serves as an ex-officio member.

Public Service Grants
All full-time faculty are eligible to apply. Professional staff may apply only with a faculty member. These grants support projects and activities that enhance the University's public service mission. The committee is responsible for the review of all applications and determining the allocation of the public service grant funds.
Public Service Awards
The Public Service Committee reviews nominations each year of faculty and staff who have performed outstanding public service for the University. The MTSU Foundation funds three Outstanding Public Service Awards in the amount of $3000.00 each, two for faculty and one for staff. These awards are one way that faculty and staff are recognized and rewarded for their public service efforts. Nominations are due the end of February each year.
